Translucent plastic bag mockup: a Photoshop workflow

A translucent bag mockup should reveal some of the background while retaining plastic texture, folds and reflections. Identify the editable parts of your file before placing a design. This guide describes an adaptation workflow; no bag PSD is attached.

Inspect the file first

Check required software, pixel dimensions, printable areas and editable layers. Names such as Artwork, Film and Shadow are not universal. Some mockups use Smart Objects, others use ordinary layers or masks. Keep an untouched copy.

Insert the design

1. Find the intended artwork layer. For a Smart Object, open its contents, replace the artwork and save to update the scene.
2. Check placement, scale and margins. A logo near a fold may become harder to read.
3. Preserve the file’s existing material effects. Avoid painting over reflections or merging layers too early.

Balance transparency and reflections

Compare the bag on a light and a darker background. Adjust the available controls gradually. There is no universal opacity percentage: the result depends on the photograph, background and layer structure. If the artwork seems to float above the plastic, inspect masks and layer order before adding more effects.

Check the final result

• At 100%, look for cut-out edges, halos and excessive distortion.
• At the display size, check logo readability and folds.
• Keep a layered version for revisions.
• Export a copy for presentation. A mockup image does not replace the production artwork requested by the bag manufacturer.
