So, are you ready to dive back into the crazy world of Far Far Away? We've been waiting for this for fourteen years, since the last part released in 2010. Fourteen long years of wondering if we would one day see the green face of our favorite grumpy ogre. Well, my friends, the wait is almost over!
But wait, you're probably wondering: "Will it be the same elite team?" Well, hold on tight, because the answer is YES! Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz and Eddie Murphy are back in action to make us die of laughter once again. We can already imagine the well-felt jokes of Donkey, the exasperated sighs of Shrek and the kung-fu blows of Princess Fiona. It promises !
Besides, our friend Eddie Murphy couldn't hold his tongue (as usual) and dropped some juicy information during an interview for Collider last June. He said: "We started 'Shrek 5' months ago (...) I recorded the first act and we're going to continue doing it this year, we're going to finish it." So, hats off to the team who are working hard to create this little gem for us!
But let's go back a little, remember the impact that Shrek had on the world of animation? In 2001, this big green man arrived and shook up all the codes of fairy tales. Exit the princesses in distress and the princes charming as smooth as banknotes! Make way for a sloppy ogre, a princess who beats up and a donkey more talkative than a caffeinated parrot.
And success was not long in coming. In 2002, “Shrek” won the very first Oscar for best animated film. Sorry! It was like the Academy was saying, "Okay guys, you've definitely changed the game." And since then, the saga has continued to delight us with its caustic humor, its endearing characters and its messages about self-acceptance that touch young and old alike.
So, what does this fifth opus have in store for us? New crazy adventures? New wacky characters? Pop culture references galore? One thing is certain, knowing the team behind Shrek, we can expect to be surprised, moved and hilarious, often in the same scene!
While waiting for 2026 (yes, I know, it's a long time...), we can always watch the first four films again and again. After all, who gets tired of seeing Shrek terrorizing the villagers, Donkey singing "I'm a Believer", or Puss in Boots making his... puss in boots eyes?
One thing is certain: on July 1, 2026, we will all be there, popcorn in hand, ready to dive back into this crazy world that we missed so much. Shrek is love, Shrek is life, and Shrek is back, baby!
So, who's ready for a new dose of green madness? I say: Shrek yeah!
