Tiny Desk Concerts: 10 standout concerts, with sources

There is no official ranking of the best Tiny Desk Concerts. This page therefore picks 10 standout concerts using a rule dated October 23, 2026: the six most-watched concerts on the NPR Music YouTube channel, then four concerts named in selections by NPR and the press. For each concert, the table gives the broadcast date on NPR, the view count and the sources.

• Origin: the first Tiny Desk Concert, with Laura Gibson, dates from 2008, at Bob Boilen’s desk at NPR Music (Washington, D.C.).
• Rules: unamplified voice, no reverb or other effects, no stage monitors (NPR, November 15, 2025).
• Pace: more than 120 concerts published in 2024 and 115 in 2025, against about ten in the first year, according to Robin Hilton (NPR).
• Most watched: Dua Lipa, Tiny Desk (Home), 151.0M YouTube views on October 23, 2026.
• Award: Papota by Ca7riel & Paco Amoroso, an EP that includes their Tiny Desk (according to Remezcla), won a Grammy on February 1, 2026.
• Latest concert published on October 23, 2026: Brìghde Chaimbeul, after Cardi B (October 19).

How these 10 concerts were chosen

A “best” concert is a matter of taste. NPR acknowledges this in its lists: in 2024, ten team members each offered a favorite; in 2025, the team handed out humorous superlatives. Neither is a ranking. We therefore applied a three-step rule.

1. Six places for the most-watched concerts, counted on the NPR Music YouTube channel on October 23, 2026, around 4:50 p.m. (Paris time). NPR’s “Most Watched Tiny Desk Concerts” page lists the same first seven concerts, in a different order.
2. Three places for concerts named by at least two selections out of five: NPR’s lists from the end of 2024 and the end of 2025, the favorites of Robin Hilton and Kara Frame (NPR, November 15, 2025), Paste’s ranking (September 14, 2023) and Hypebeast’s selection (August 23, 2023). Outside the first group, three concerts are named twice: Tyler, The Creator (Paste, Hypebeast), Tierra Whack (NPR 2024, Robin Hilton) and 31 Minutos (NPR 2025, Kara Frame).
3. One place for the most-watched of the concerts named only once: Ca7riel & Paco Amoroso (NPR 2024 list), seventh by view count.

Limits: we only consulted two press lists, and view counts favor older concerts and artists with a large audience. Justin Bieber (Home), at 56.5M views, is 0.1M behind Ca7riel & Paco Amoroso and stays off the list, as do Alicia Keys (48.2M), Jorja Smith (46.9M) and Adele (45.5M).

Awards: what the Grammys say

In the sources we checked, no award is given to the Tiny Desk series itself. The distinctions concern artists who played it.

At the Grammys on February 1, 2026, Papota by Ca7riel & Paco Amoroso won Best Latin Rock or Alternative Album, and NPR’s list links to their Tiny Desk. In the same list, Leon Thomas’s “MUTT”, in its “Live from NPR’s Tiny Desk” version, is one of the five nominees for Best R&B Performance; Kehlani won. Turnstile (metal) and Clipse (rap) won performance Grammys, with a link to their Tiny Desk.

Tiny Desk: origin, rules and location

In 2008, Bob Boilen and Stephen Thompson of NPR Music could not hear Laura Gibson in an Austin bar during South by Southwest. Thompson joked that she should come and play at their desks. She agreed and showed up at NPR three weeks later (NPR, 2015). The name comes from Tiny Desk Unit, a band Bob Boilen played in during the late 1970s.

The concerts are filmed in the NPR Music offices in Washington, D.C. According to Robin Hilton (NPR, November 15, 2025), the original rules still hold: unamplified voice, no reverb or other effects, no stage monitors.

NPR announced Bob Boilen’s retirement on October 2, 2023, after 35 years with the organization, and now presents Bobby Carter as host and producer of the series. Tiny Desk (Home) concerts began in late March 2020: March 11 was the last day the desk welcomed musicians, and artists filmed themselves at home. Three concerts in our selection are among them: Dua Lipa, BTS and C. Tangana.

The NPR team’s picks for 2025

In 2025, NPR published 115 concerts and asked the team that produces and films them to choose their favorites as superlatives (December 29, 2025). Five of those picks, reworded:
