Halle Berry is having a rant. And frankly, we understand her. Twenty-two years after her Oscar, still not a single black sister has won the prize for best actress. It's not for lack of talent to sell, though!

Our National Hall, you know, the one that got everyone on the same page in 2001 with her role in "In the Shadow of Hate", well she's not happy. And she made it known to Marie Claire. "I can't believe it", she told them. "Every year, I watch the ceremony and I think to myself 'come on, this time it's the real one'. And then there's nothing. There's no shortage of chicks!"

I have to say that Halle is not wrong. We have had some incredible performances in recent years. Take Andra Day in "Billie Holiday", or Viola Davis in "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom". Killers, these girls! But apparently, that's not enough to convince the old farts at the Academy.

Berry, she thought she had paved the way. "I thought it was bigger than me, you know. That I was going to be the first in a long line. But nothing! I just kept fighting in my corner, like nothing had changed."

It must be said that the film industry is not really known for being at the forefront of diversity. It's a bit like if we had put Halle Berry on a pedestal in mode "Look, we're not racist, we have our black token!". And then basta, back to good old habits.

So yeah, there was Michelle Yeoh last year with "Everything Everywhere All at Once". A crazy performance, we agree. But one swallow does not make a summer, as they say. And then, between us, a Malaysian is not exactly what we call representative of the African-American community, is it?

Anyway, Halle Berry is right to open up. Because honestly, it's still crazy that in 2024, we're still here. There's work to be done, guys, seriously. And black chicks deserve better than crumbs. So Hollywood, are we getting off our asses or what?
