ZEvent 2024 was a bit like the family reunion we've all been waiting for, except that this time, 130 streamers came together for an unprecedented charity marathon. And once again, they hit hard: more than 10 million euros raised to fight against poverty. Yes, this is the third consecutive edition that they've exceeded this symbolic mark, but even if the 2022 record (10.18 million) wasn't beaten this time, who cares? What matters is that this event shows that the Internet can be something other than a space for hate and trolls. For three days, the Twitch community united for something that really matters.
The event started with a concert at the Zénith in Montpellier on September 5th, just to warm everyone up. Then, it was time for the charity marathon from September 6th to 8th. And as usual, we were treated to some strong moments, laughter, tears, and unfortunately some darker moments. There was no shortage of attacks on social media, harassment, especially against creators like Ultia and OPCrotte. Frankly, it's sad to see that even in such a noble setting, some people continue to spill their venom.
But let's talk about real things: the streamers and the community have shown unwavering solidarity. Ultia, who had already experienced this in 2021, was able to count on unwavering support. The situation of harassment on the Internet is a real problem, a problem that deserves to be taken seriously, and maybe one day, we will see concrete solutions. Maybe.
In the meantime, in terms of numbers, there is reason to be impressed. Domingo was the undisputed king of ZEvent 2024, with over a million euros raised on his own. Yes, €1,206,879 to be precise. It makes your head spin. But he was not the only one to shine: Antoine Daniel, Samuel Étienne, and even remotely, m4fgaming all did their part with impressive personal prize pools.
And then there are those moments when humanity takes over. Le Joueur du Grenier, on the phone with his son, moved to tears because his son told him “I love you, Dad” for the first time. We often talk about donation records, but it’s these kinds of moments that really leave a mark. We all come out of it a little bigger, a little more aware that we are part of something bigger than ourselves.
In the end, this 2024 edition of ZEvent was not only a gigantic fundraiser, it was further proof that, despite the storms of online hate, kindness still has its place. And that's what we need to remember.
