Nintendo has just unveiled its highly anticipated Switch 2 console, the successor to the iconic Switch released in 2017. Scheduled for release in 2025, this new console promises to redefine the gaming experience. Here's everything we know so far.
According to Nintendo's teaser video, the Switch 2 retains the DNA of its predecessor while introducing major changes. The overall design remains similar: a hybrid console capable of being used both in handheld mode and connected to a TV screen. However, the Switch 2 appears larger and more robust. The Joy-Con controllers, now magnetic, can be used as a mouse, a feature that has generated excitement among players.
The console will be equipped with two USB-C ports and will integrate a next-generation chip, likely from Nvidia, to improve fluidity and graphics quality thanks to technologies such as DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling).
Good news for fans: the Switch 2 will be backward compatible with games from the original Switch, whether they were in cartridge form or digitally via the eShop. However, Nintendo warns that some titles may not be fully compatible.
Furthermore, the console should accompany its launch with new titles, starting with a new installment of Mario Kart , awaited for years by fans of the franchise.
With the Switch 2, Nintendo aims to match, or even surpass, the incredible success of the original Switch. With 143 million units sold to date, it is the third best-selling console in history, behind the Nintendo DS and PlayStation 2. The Switch 2 ends a decade dominated by the original and lays the foundation for a new generation of hybrid video games.
