This glossary explains terms frequently used on HYTRAPE. It helps to compare resources; exact compatibility is always specified on each product page.
Graphic design and image
PSD
Photoshop document that can retain layers, masks, effects, and editable elements. Some features depend on the software version.
PNG
Lossless compressed raster image, often used to preserve transparency. It does not contain the layers of a PSD.
JPG / JPEG
Compressed image format suitable for previews and photographs. It does not support transparency.
TIFF
Flexible raster format used for exchange and printing, with compression and color depth options.
SVG
Scalable vector format. Its editing depends on the software and how the file was constructed.
DPI / PPI
Dots per inch, mainly used for printing. Pixel dimensions remain essential for evaluating true resolution.
Photo and video
- LUT: lookup table transforming color values. Check its format, color space, and target software.
- Preset: a set of settings saved in an application like Lightroom. A preset does not guarantee an identical result on all images.
- Overlay: visual element superimposed on an image or video, often provided in PNG, JPG, MOV, or another specified format.
- Transition: an effect for moving between two shots. Check the software, version, project format, and required plugins.
Audio
- Sample: individual audio file intended for use in a production according to the license.
- Drumkit: an organized set of drum sounds, sometimes accompanied by loops or presets.
- BPM: beats per minute, a measure of tempo.
- Key: musical key declared for a melodic loop or sample.
- WAV: audio container commonly used to retain an uncompressed or lossless signal depending on the encoding.
Working files
- Mockup: presentation file, often based on smart objects, allowing a visual to be inserted into a scene.
- Template: a pre-built document or project to customize.
- Smart Object: Photoshop layer allowing certain non-destructive transformations and content replacements.
- Minimum version: the oldest software version declared as compatible by the creator.
