Colors: a white for 2026, greens for 2027

Colors of the year are announced by brands, with a published date and rationale.

1. Cloud Dancer white (Pantone, 2026)

What it is. A slightly greyed white: Pantone 11-4201 Cloud Dancer, color of the year 2026. Pantone presents it as a structural color that lets the other shades stand out. According to Smithsonian Magazine, it is the first white chosen since the program began in 1999.

Where it is documented. On the official Pantone page and in Dezeen, on December 4, 2025. Laurie Pressman, vice president of the Pantone Color Institute, ties the choice to a collective reaction against feeling overcommitted and overstimulated, according to Dezeen.

Verifiable example. Pantone publishes two palettes paired with Cloud Dancer: Powdered Pastels, which brings together pastels and neutrals, and Light & Shadow, which runs from softened hues to dark shades.

2. Greens of the year 2027 (Dulux and Benjamin Moore)

What it is. Two paint makers have chosen a green for 2027. Dulux picked Soulful Sage, a sage green the brand describes as light, soft and silvery. Benjamin Moore picked Webster Green HC-130, a green the brand presents as confident, both stable and optimistic.

Where it is documented. Dezeen reported Dulux’s choice on September 8, 2026 and tied it to AkzoNobel’s ColourFutures research, which points to a move toward lighter, more considered environments in response to information overload. Benjamin Moore published its press release on October 14, 2026, with a quote from Andrea Magno (Vice President of Brand, Color, and Integrated Marketing). The year before, Dulux had chosen a trio of blues, Rhythm of Blues (Dezeen).

Verifiable example. Dulux offers Soulful Sage in three color stories, Glow, Light and Lift, on its official page. The code Webster Green HC-130 appears in Benjamin Moore’s press release.

Milan, April 2026: six trends from Salone del Mobile

The 64th Salone del Mobile.Milano ran from April 21 to 26, 2026 at Rho Fiera Milano (Illustrarch). Dezeen published six trends from the week on April 27, 2026, and Wallpaper* published four on April 29, 2026. The six trends below take three from Wallpaper* and three from Dezeen.

3. Lacquer on seating

What it is. Lacquered elements are built into sofas and armchairs. Wallpaper* sees a break with the very soft seating of recent years: lacquer adds structure and contrast.

Where it is documented. Wallpaper*, article by Rosa Bertoli, April 29, 2026. It names Tacchini, Frigerio, Minotti, Visionnaire, Molteni & C and Living Divani.

Verifiable example. The Edge, by Piero Lissoni for Living Divani. The brand’s 2026 catalogue states that the seating comes fully upholstered or with a lacquered structure.

4. Sculptural tables

What it is. The dining table becomes an object that sets the style of the room, thanks to elaborate bases. Wallpaper* notes marble at Baxter and at Frigerio.

Where it is documented. Wallpaper*, April 29, 2026: Abaco (Ronan Bouroullec, B&B Italia), Blaine (Hannes Peer, Minotti), Tara (Sebastian Herkner, Flexform), Kumo (Calvi Brambilla, Frigerio) and Zaho (Christophe Delcourt, Baxter).

Verifiable example. Abaco, by Ronan Bouroullec for B&B Italia. The Stylepark listing says it was presented at Salone del Mobile 2026 and built in wood, lacquer, concrete, smoked glass and leather: all-wood versions, versions with lacquered or light grey concrete legs, or with a smoked glass top.

5. Decorated walls

What it is. Walls are treated as surfaces in their own right: boiserie, relief tiles, mirror, embroidered textile. Wallpaper* files this movement under the heading “environmental richness” and links it to a maximalism that, according to the magazine, can transform a space with elegance.

Where it is documented. Wallpaper*, April 29, 2026: the studio David/Nicolas (boiserie), Hannes Peer (Officine Saffi Lab, Casa di Marmo for Margraf), Patricia Urquiola (Mosso tiles for Cimento) and Gachot (mirrored wall at Artemest).

Verifiable example. David/Nicolas covered their studio in boiserie to show the technique on walls, doors, cabinets and hooks for artworks. Wallpaper* describes a modular system resulting from several years of research.

6. Inflatable furniture

What it is. Seats and tables filled with air, shown by emerging designers as well as big brands. Dezeen also counts inflatable pavilions, including those by Škoda and USM.

Where it is documented. Dezeen, April 27, 2026: Vasto Gallery’s inflatable sofa, a special edition for Nike’s Air Lab at Dropcity, and Jabez Bartlett’s low coffee table at Alcova, which looks like a PVC pillow topped with milky resin.

Verifiable example. IKEA’s PS 2026 Easy Chair, designed by Mikael Axelsson: two inflatable cushions, a rectangular seat and a tubular backrest, held in a carbon steel frame and inflated with a foot pump (Dezeen, April 21, 2026).

7. Edible shapes

What it is. Objects that take the shape of food: eggs, tomato, fruit, vegetables. Dezeen compares the week’s offering to an entire grocery store of food-shaped products.

Where it is documented. Dezeen, April 27, 2026: Eny Lee Parker’s giant egg-shaped lights, Laila Gohar’s merry-go-round with seats that resemble a radish, a cabbage and a fig, and Sudden Object’s glass fruit bases, shown at the Convey exhibition.

Verifiable example. Chloé’s reissue of the Tomato chair, designed in 1970 by Christian Adam with Poltronova. According to Chloé’s press release, it is in naturally tanned leather, in four colors (cream, cognac, sand, black), made to order and shown from April 22 to 26, 2026 at 30 via della Spiga, Milan.

8. Sci-fi lighting

What it is. Lamps that look like creatures or androids, in chrome, steel wire and glass. Dezeen sees a more unsettling version of the utopian space-age look of the 1970s.

Where it is documented. Dezeen, April 27, 2026: Bethan Laura Wood’s Mille Fleurs chandelier for Baccarat, Anita Morvillo’s lamps at Nilufar Gallery and Tino Seubert’s Ferric Glass lights at Delvis Unlimited.

Verifiable example. Mille Fleurs, a modular version of Baccarat’s Zénith chandelier, introduced around 1850. Crystal rings hang from tensioned cables and can be arranged vertically or horizontally. The chandelier was shown at the Crystal Crypt exhibition, April 21 to 25, 2026 (Dezeen, April 30, 2026).

Materials and craft: second life and collectible design

9. Second life for materials

What it is. Turning discards into new objects. Maison&Objet calls this trend Metamorphosis and sums it up this way: nothing is thrown away, everything is transformed. The fair ties it to a global upcycling momentum, in which objects change shape, function and meaning.

Where it is documented. Maison&Objet, October 2, 2025, for the edition of January 15 to 19, 2026 (dates confirmed by Time Out Paris). Designer of the Year Harry Nuriev presented his manifesto Transformism there, which calls for giving a second life to what no longer has a place (Maison&Objet, same date). In Milan, Dezeen also notes Sudden Object’s repair-by-collage approach.

Verifiable example. ECHO 01 Alu Edition at Dutch Design Week (Building TX, Eindhoven, October 17 to 25, 2026): according to Dezeen, 14 designers transform aluminium offcuts from extrusion profiles and street lighting pole production (Dezeen, October 12, 2026; programme page). The exhibition is under way as of October 23, 2026.

10. Collectible design

What it is. One-off or limited-edition pieces, halfway between art and design. Dezeen notes that, among the pieces at Salone Raritas, many lean more toward art than design.

Where it is documented. Dezeen, April 23, 2026: Salone Raritas is the new Salone del Mobile section devoted to collectible design, launched in 2026. Maison&Objet, October 2, 2025: its “revisited baroque” turns unique objects and limited editions into true collectibles. Dutch Design Week programs Forward Furniture (curator Liv Vaisberg, around 100 designers, three pieces each, October 17 to 25, 2026).

Verifiable example. Quilted Fragments by Lewis Kemmenoe, shown by Max Radford Gallery at Salone Raritas: patchwork chairs made from several European timbers (Dezeen).

Themes announced by the fairs

Three fair themes complete these trends. They reflect the intention announced by the organizers, before or during the event.

  • Dutch Design Week, October 17 to 25, 2026: theme R.A.W., for Rebel Authentic Worth. The organizers present it as a return to the essence of design, with its raw and experimental stages (ddw.nl, July 23, 2026). Among its ten picks on October 12, 2026, Dezeen lists Teun Zwets’s 50 new chairs and Christien Meindertsma’s Local Linoleum exhibition. The festival ends on October 25, 2026.
  • Maison&Objet, September 10 to 14, 2026: theme Pulse in Motion, developed with the NellyRodi agency. Four directions: Union, Leadership, Elevation and Intensity. Vincent Grégoire of NellyRodi speaks of graphic, colorful and dynamic design languages (Maison&Objet, March 26, 2026). During Paris Design Week, September 10 to 19, the studio Uchronia installed Le Grand Bouquet at the Grand Palais, a sculpture of giant metal flowers. Its founder, Julien Sebban, describes it to Dezeen as playful and accessible (Dezeen, September 11, 2026).
  • Maison&Objet, January 14 to 18, 2027: theme Sensory Shift, developed by NellyRodi. Four movements: Anchoring, Serenity, Elevation and Exaltation (Maison&Objet, October 7, 2026).

Other signals, outside the ten

  • Tubular chairs: Wallpaper* (April 29, 2026) notes new designs and reissues, including Nicos Zographos’s CH66 cantilever chair (1966), reissued by Cassina and Karakter.
  • Sound and hi-fi: Dezeen (April 27, 2026) cites Naoto Soundsystem’s speaker stack at Base and Studio Ambre’s charred-wood hi-fi system.
  • Mutation and Neo-Folklore: these are Maison&Objet’s other two trends for January 2026. The first describes hybridizations of materials and forms. The second reinterprets local know-how, with six worlds imagined with the help of AI by the Australian bureau MC&Co Trend (Maison&Objet, October 29, 2025).
  • Brands in Milan: Dezeen (April 27, 2026) reports criticism from professionals, including the designer Jasper Morrison, about the space brands took during Milan’s design week.

Method and limits

A trend is included when a named, dated source states it: a color announced by a brand, a fair’s official program, an article from a specialist outlet. It must also have a verifiable example, such as a product page, a press release or an exhibition page. No market statistics are used. The choice of the ten trends among those cited by these sources is a selection by the HYTRAPE editors. The lists from Dezeen and Wallpaper* are editorial choices by their newsrooms.
